Measurement-driven Large Eddy Simulation of dispersion in street canyons of variable building height

The ventilation efficiency of three periodic building patterns equal total volume and packing density is investigated: street canyons bounded by H uniform 0.5H/1.5H variable height buildings, via wind tunnel measurements Large Eddy Simulation. numerical model utilizes the Transient Wind Forcing method to take effect eddies larger than domain size into account, a special Lagrangian dispersion model, which allows for calculation particle trajectories exceeding boundaries LES domain. spatial temporal characteristics concentration responses both pulse-like steady point sources located at surfaces are analyzed. It shown that has favorable on urban in densely built areas: average near-ground can be reduced up 70% buildings staggered arrangement. In terms velocity, turbulence distributions, results consistent with experiments, verifying applicability comparative air quality studies. Since presented capable handling dynamic changes direction magnitude, accuracy TWF potentially overcome limitations tests.
